THE ONLY PLACE FOR UNIQUE FATHERS DAY GIFTS
(Released 1 August 2011)
Is your father difficult to purchase for?
Does he have everything?
Does he like the finer things in life?
With Fathers Day (Sunday 4th September) fast approaching, the common question every year is:
What do we buy dad which isn’t socks, jocks or power tools?
Lord Coconut, the hidden Melbourne CBD treasure in Carlow House has the answer.
Lord Coconut is the only retail store in Melbourne specialising in handcrafted contemporary jewellery, cufflinks and art for men. The store features works by over 20 Melbourne jewellers, designers and artisans along with artefacts, also for sale, which reflect the 19th century natural history museum fitout of the store. Jewellery includes: cufflinks, rings, necklaces, tie pins, lapel pins, mooches (brooches for men), earrings, bracelets/cuffs and selected artwork/objects. Artefacts include: West African masks, stalactites and Indian carvings, right through to taxidermy such as foxes and preserved crocodile paws.
“The opening of the store was in response to never being able to find that perfect gift for my two fathers,” said owner Mark Boldiston. “With five brothers and sisters from a blended family, it was becoming increasingly difficult to find just the right gift for Father’s Day which stood out from the crowd. To make matters worse, both fathers also have birthdays in September!”
Featured items in the store include:
- Anatomical cufflinks by professional medical illustrator Beth Croce. Designs include total arterial coronary artery bypass, pancreas, vertebra, cranium and inner ear cufflinks.
- Harpuka skin cufflinks by Ellen Pittman
- Perforated mild steel cufflinks and pendants by Jin ah Jo
- Huon pine and powder coated steel cufflink cases by Innocente
- German glass doll’s eye cufflinks by Justine Austen
- Titanium beetle lapel pins (inspired by origami) by Justin Siow
Lord Coconut is now open – Mark Boldiston and several of the jewellers/designers are available for interviews.
Lord Coconut is also willing to discuss giveaway opportunities you may have in the lead up to Fathers Day.
