PETER MCLISKY AND ZACHARY FRANKEL JOIN FORCES: THE BUNNY JEWELLERY RANGE
Melbourne (July 19 2102) – Lovers of Peter McLisky’s quirky rabbit sculptures can now wear a miniature version around their neck, with the bunny jewellery range, a design collaboration between McLisky and Melbourne jeweller, Zachary Frankel, available at Lord Coconut.
Featured widely in design magazines, McLisky’s exterior sculptures have been adapted with the assistance of Zachary Frankel, to create statement pieces of jewellery, stocked by the home of unique, hand-made jewellery from local artisans, Lord Coconut.
The collaboration was an alignment of creative minds. Frankel and McLisky first met while working out of the Boyd School Studios in Southbank, a creative space for artists supported by the City of Melbourne.
Frankel and McLisky’s work began to shift into each other’s realms when Frankel moved into the same studio. At the same time that McLisky started creating his own jewellery, Frankel extended his repertoire into furniture making with laser-cut steel, one of McLisky’s methods. The bunny jewellery collaboration was a natural progression.
The unique collection, made from high quality brass, is laser cut using McLisky’s original designs, and plated in gold or platinum, with a sterling silver chain. All necklaces are $135 at Lord Coconut.
The bunny collection captures both Frankel and McLisky’s eccentricity. Frankel’s largely sculptural jewellery pays close attention to shape and texture, with an element of humour. Jewellery, he believes, should never be taken too seriously.
A sense of humour also pervades McLisky’s work, which often incorporates simple shapes, bold colours and metallic textures in laser-cut steel. The influences of his 1960’s art school education, the pop art of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, and his former career in graphic design, advertising and television, are evident in his work.
This creative collaboration sees Lord Coconut continue to showcase of the work of Melbourne’s local artisans and jewellers. Lord Coconut is home of local, hand-made jewellery and accessories for men in Flinders Lane, Melbourne, offering an antidote to the everyday.
